When the pandemic began, the sport that looked the safest before it was the NFL. This was because of its calendar, where it was expected that by the time the world’s top football league was scheduled to start, the pandemic would be under control.

However, the months are passing and the reality is that the pandemic continues to wreak havoc and has hit the NFL directly. Specifically, many players from the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans have tested positive, with cases of great players, including running back Ezekiel Elliott. Also, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, Denver Broncos defensive wing Von Miller and Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen have previously been victims of the Covid-19.

Clearly, in a contact sport like American football, the rules of social distancing are not enforceable, so it is vital for the league and its players that the NFL contingency plan is effective.

Oakley, along with the league, is looking to implement an N95 helmet technology for this 2020 season, which would prevent both sweat and saliva from spreading through the grid and also protect players from any contagion. However, they are in the preliminary stages.

Many teams are gradually returning to their respective facilities, so it is crucial that control of the pandemic, at least from the perspective of individual organizations, is effective in preventing the spread of positive cases.

With the second wave of the virus attacking much of the world, including the United States of America, the NFL season may become very complicated. Due to the high levels of contagion, the mix of social bubbles and the large number of people involved in running a simple NFL game, it is unimaginable, in a second wave, to see a regular “normal” season.

While there are three and a half months left to see the kickoff of the NFL among the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Houston Texans, it all comes down to the question, especially when it is mentioned that there are several positive cases in the Houston franchise.

Similarly, one must take into account the fact that, if a case is positive, the player or persons infected must maintain a minimum 14-day quarantine. That is, between two and three regular season games, which can condition the action of an entire franchise, depending on the player in question.

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci, said that it is not feasible to test players daily, but that, from testing players on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, it becomes more feasible to play football as long as the levels of contagion are more controlled in the American nation.

It remains to be seen whether the Kansas City Chiefs will be able to defend their Lombardi or whether the season will have to be readjusted, or at least whether it can be done, all depending on how American society and the NFL manage to react to a pandemic that has become really complicated not only in the United States, but in the world.

In a season that had so many stories to tell, wrapped up in a pandemic and a war over social justice, everything takes a back seat if the grids are not in a position to receive the top stars of the NFL.
